Take Time for a Retreat

Every organization should have a staff retreat.
A few weeks ago, Holy Redeemer Catholic School hosted our annual staff retreat. This year, we travelled to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Riverview, Michigan.
As I reflected during Eucharstic Adoration, I was struck with the importance of these retreats. Three main reasons came to mind.
Mission: Amid the chaos of preparing for a new year, it’s easy to lose sight of why we do this work. A retreat grounds us again in the mission: the children we serve.
Community: Teaching can feel isolating. A retreat reminds us that we are a team who can rely on each other for support.
Growth: Time for prayer, reflection, and conversation allows us to grow, not only as educators, but also as people. A culture of trust is essential to the success of any organization, and retreats help build that trust.
If you’re a school leader, I’d be glad to share our retreat agenda. If you are a leader of another organization, think about your own context: how are you helping your team focus on your mission, encourage community support, and build relational trust?
